Over the years we have witnessed communities and organisations grapple with similar challenges. In response to these challenges and the specific needs of rural communities Local Logic Place’s managing Directors Lisa McCoy and Rachael Williams have developed a suite of training programs. Both Lisa and Rachael are experienced trainers, hold Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment and, as authors of the training packages, have the capacity and flexibility to adapt each training program to meet the specific needs of the individual group. 

We deliver our training on site at the time and location most suitable to your group or organisation. Our current training programs include:

Engaging & Involving Young People:

Young people are a valuable and often underutilised resource in rural communities. Many community organisations and groups talk about attracting younger membership to assist with the work that they do but are often unsure how to do it.
This Workshop on Engaging & Involving Young People Will:

  • Provide you with an easy to use youth engagement framework
  • Provide you with tools and strategies to involve young people and their ideas in the work you do
  • Highlight the benefits of youth engagement
  • Increase your knowledge and confidence so that you can engage young people in the work that your organisation/group does

Making Meetings EVEN More Productive:

Meetings can be an essential method in generating ideas, sharing information, learning from each other and making decisions that will move a group forward. However, if meetings are not well planned or facilitated, they can result in poor decisions and a lack of progress which can eventually affect a group’s financial viability, productivity and member morale. The ‘Making Meetings EVEN More Productive’ Workshop will:

  • Support you to confidently and effectively carry out both office bearer and participant roles
  • Provide you with practical strategies for saving time in meetings (including developing clear agendas and keeping meetings on time and on topic)
  • Increase your techniques for handling conflict, tricky and off-track conversations
  • Increase your knowledge and skills in applying clear purpose and process to your meetings
  • Assist you to determine if a meeting is needed and identify appropriate alternatives
  • Blend theory with practical examples and exercises to ensure learning

Good Governance:

Many community groups are mystified by the terms ‘governance’ and ‘good governance’ – but increasingly funding bodies are calling on groups and organisations to demonstrate ‘good governance’. However ‘Good governance’ is more than ticking the box—it brings real gains to your group including a more satisfied membership and greater ability to succession plan for new members and officer bearers. Good Governance allows you to CONFORM to the necessary legal requirements and PERFORM to your capacity as a group.

This workshop on ‘Understanding & Building Good Governance’ will:

  • Explain Governance and Good Governance using practical examples
  • Demonstrate the elements of good governance and how they can benefit your group
  • Share practical tools for assessing your group’s areas of governance strength and concern
  • Explain practical strategies for writing
  • Good Governance Principles for your group (where workshop participants are members of the same
  • group these Principles will be developed with the group during this session)
  • Support you in establishing and understanding position descriptions for your group’s office bearers and members (again time will be spent writing these if all workshop participants are from the same group)
  • Provide practical resources for ensuing the well being of people who may volunteer to your group

Practical Skills for Writing Grant Applications:

Many community groups and organisations seek additional funding to assist them in doing their day to day work or to extend the work they already do. Being skilled and confident in grant writing can assist community groups and organisations to secure the additional funding that they so often require.

This Workshop Will:

  • Explain terminology often used in grants e.g. project plan, target group, outcomes and aims & objectives
  • Look at where grants can be found
  • Share a simple format for creating a project plan and budget
  • Highlight the importance of using data to strengthen grant applications and reveal places where it can be found; and
  • Provide you with a ’hands on’ opportunity to write a grant

Managing Conflict:

When people from a range of backgrounds and experiences are brought together, it is foreseeable that conflict could occur. People and organisations often view conflict as a negative, or something to be avoided. Yet conflict, differences, or disagreements are a natural result of people working together. Conflict can be a chance to embrace new understandings and creative solutions.

This Workshop on Managing Conflict Will:

  • Explain the common causes of conflict
  • Build understanding around conflict styles
  • Review communication do’s and don’ts
  • Look at ways to use conflict to reach good outcomes
  • Provide an easy to use process for resolving conflict
  • Share resources that are available when extra support is required
